A little about me…

I’m Britt Sanders, and I’m a high school English teacher. I began my teaching career in 2003. Since that time, I’ve taught in both North and South Carolina. I’ve taught grades 6-12, as well as some remedial college classes. I’ve worked in 6 different schools, both public and private. And I’ve worked under more than a dozen administrators.

I’m currently the English Department Chair in a rural South Carolina school.

My Story

I graduated from North Greenville University with a B.A. in English, so I had to earn my teaching certificate through an alternative program for certification. To say that I was unprepared for what actual teaching would be like is an understatement. I was teaching middle school English and Science (for which I was in NO way qualified). I resigned after my first year. I hated it. I was stressed to the point that I had a bleeding ulcer. It was an overall miserable experience. I swore I would NEVER teach again, but then…

Fast forward to July of the following year. A friend suggested I try teaching high school. She knew a school that had an opening, and they were pretty desperate. She cajoled and needled…and reminded me of summers and holidays off…and I agreed to an interview. And the rest is history.
